Schools forgo metal detectors

First Cleveland Schools Get Metal Detectors, X-Ray Machines
Seven schools now have new walk-through metal detectors, some with X-ray machines, and the district says the installation will be an ongoing process until every school has them.

School ID badges anger parents
Students in a small rural town in California are now required to wear radio-frequency ID badges in school. Many parents are outraged by the new system, and have told their children not to wear the badges.
Brittan Elementary School in Sutter, CA, introduced the badge system on January 18. Each student must wear the ID card, which includes their photo, name and grade. A wireless transmitter beams their ID number to a teacher’s handheld computer when they walk through the doorway. A similar device is used to track livestock. View story
